Transmission Service

When we take our vehicle into the shop, the technician usually tells us something with no explanation. So if your technicians tells you that your vehicle needs a transmission service, will you really understand what that means? Maybe they are unable to explain it to you. Maybe they just don’t want to. Well, at Agape Auto Service, we do things differently.

If your vehicle is in need of a transmission service, you should know exactly what that means, and what needs to be done. Today we will be discussing four of the most common types of transmission services and some details about them, to help you better understand, if you are in need of a service.

  1. Automatic Transmission Fluid Exchange

Transmission fluid for your automatic transmission is a fluid that is viscous in texture. The purpose of this fluid is to lubricate the gears in your transmission. The combination of your wear and tear on your vehicle, like time, friction, and heat, cause the fluid to break down. To prevent damaging your vehicle, we highly recommend that you do an automatic transmission fluid exchange regularly. However, we also recommend that you check your owner’s manual to see what your manufacturer recommendsyou’re your car.

When we begin this process, one of our technicians will drain any old fluid by removing the transmission drain plug. We will also check the condition your plug is in before we reinstall it, to be sure you will have a tight seal with no leaks. We then refill your transmission system with clean fresh fluid, typically, the type your manufacturer recommends for you vehicle.

  1. Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid Replacement

Your vehicle thankfully comes with a filter which removed any dirt, debris, and particles that circulates through the system from your transmission fluid. With time this filter becomes extremely dirty and will eventually begin decreasing how well your vehicle performs.

When we do this process, we begin by removing the transmission pan, and then take your old filter out and replace it with a new one that your manufacturer specifies. We also take off and replace the gasket material before putting the transmission pad back in. We finish this by making sure your system is filled with new transmission fluid, which we also get recommended from your manufacturer.

  1. Manual Transmission Service

Much like automatic transmissions, manual transmissions have a very similar mechanical operation. The only major difference between the two is that the driver uses the clutch versus the car automatically doing it. Manual transmissions require a complete evacuation in the system before we can refill it with the proper grade of transmission fluid.

  1. Complete Transmission Service

A complete transmission service is the most common and best way to prevent your transmission system from failing or developing future issues. When we begin this process we will not only replace your transmission fluid and filter, we will also check on many components of your vehicle to make sure they are in good shape to get you back on the road safely, and to also make sure your car is in good health. That’s not all we do though! In this process we also examine the transmission sump and pan, clean the transmission pan, replace the transmission pan’s gasket material, and look inside your transmission to check for any friction damage, metal particles, excessive wear and tear, and just overall any complications that might be happening. If we begin to notice excessive wear, we will advise you as we see fit. We will also recommend anything that is serious enough to cause concern, and give you what we think would be the best course of action to solve the issue.

When transmissions fail, the likely cause is breakdown of automatic transmission fluid (ATF). BG’s diverse line of transmission products, including high quality ATF, will stand the test of time. Which means no more worry about transmission failure due to poor, broken-down transmission fluid.
